Saileach Large Tote Bag – Lilac & Natural Linen

£60.00

Made by Nicola Gates

Zipped tote bag made by Olla Nua handwoven wool and Irish linen, with interior pocket & leather zip – pull.

The weave of the woollen panels was inspired by textures observed in Irish woodlands and hedgerows. ‘Saileach’ is the Irish word for willow, or the ‘Sally’ bush as we often call it here.  This size of tote could be used as a project bag for holding knitting or crochet projects or could be used to store the smaller contents of your luggage while traveling.

This colourway is woven in pearl grey & ecru lambswool warp with a vibrant lilac weft in authentic Donegal yarn.

Outer: 50% wool, 50% linen

Lining: 100% linen

Approximate size; 26 cm (height) x 26cm (width) x 12 cm (depth of base)

About the maker:

Nicola weaves contemporary cloth, on a traditional floor loom, powered entirely by hand and foot. Using yarns spun by mills in Ireland and the UK. Inspired by the tradition of weaving in the rural west, many pieces incorporate authentic Donegal yarn, produced in Kilcar, with its distinctive fleck and homespun texture.

Olla Nua is known for attention to detail at every stage… after the meticulous setting up of the loom and weaving, the cloth is washed and often lightly felted to produce the desired softness and texture. Cutting and stitching follow, sometimes combining the handwoven cloth with Irish linen.
