Text on the back: ‘Linen is synonymous with Ireland. For hundreds of years generations of skilled weavers have produced this unique fabric known the world over for its superior quality and classic beauty.

The Celtic people of Ireland revered trees not only as a vital source of food, fuel and building materials but also believed them to be sacred and assigned various attributes to different species. Gail Kelly has produced a series of linocuts inspired by this ancient folklore and has printed her designs on fine Irish linen.

Willows often grow near water and some types are still used to make baskets and artists’ charcoal. A tree of enchantment and mystery, the willow is the poets’ tree and is associated with intuition, eloquence and creativity.’

Approximate size: mount – height 25cm, width 25cm image – 14cm x 14cm
