My latest body of work responds to the theme of Unlocked on two levels. Firstly it has been created since the Covid-19 lockdown came to an end and I have been unlocked from lockdown, released back to my studio. Secondly I wish to ask a question of the Gallery going public; As the world produces more protective equipment, what is to become of this pandemic of plastic pollution? My work historically revolves around themes of connection to the landscape. The vast amount of plastic waste that society has generated since Covid-19 began now means that plastic pollution is more ubiquitous and intrinsic to our land and sea scape than ever before. The natural mineral colours and found materials in my work reflect my explorations by sea of the South Western Atlantic coast and the dialog of water on rock I observe there. The bright primary colours incorporated and folded into the clay is a commentary on the detrimental merging of plastic pollution into our landscape. What will humanity do when Mother Nature unlocks all she reluctantly carries in her Oceans?
