About Grainne Watts:

The coastline of Ireland has been a major source of inspiration in my work as a ceramic artist.

Over a lifetime, I have collected and recorded ‘treasures’ that inspire my practice, from weather-eroded flotsam and indented stones to vibrant seaweeds.

In recent years, my work has developed into specific themes that I explore and expand through limited edition series. There are unifying sources of inspiration that run through each body of work. Many of these influences relate to colour, pattern and the visual and tactile marks evident in Nature.

I work with Porcelain and Stoneware clays and use layers of vibrant underglazes and slips to create interesting surface detail. I use various techniques such as throwing and hand-building, to create my Sculptural forms and vessels.
