Pate de verre is an ancient glass casting technique which literally means, ‘paste of glass’. It involves using crushed glass packed tightly into hand built moulds. After firing, the mould is broken away to reveal a thin walled vessel.

About the maker
Alison Lowry is a glass artist living and working from her studio, ‘Schoolhouse Glass’ in Saintfield, Co. Down. In 2009 she graduated from the Ulster University with a Degree in Art and Design.Alison has several different aspects to her art practise. She makes works for exhibition, small pieces for the domestic environment and also teaches various fused glass techniques from her studio.
