Tsubo Form with Textured Surface

Made by Rory Shearer

Hand built tsubo form with textured surface,  Hand made by Rory Shearer in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Light grey slip overlaids an earthy red, subtle textural marks reveal tones of red underneath while pulling up a mottled roughness through the clay. The body is covered with a shino glaze adding a subtle pearlescent hint to the piece.

Concentrating on surface, Rory’s pieces are no longer just containers, but are hollow forms that you want to pick up, touch, move your hand over the surface and examine the exterior.  Rory’s work shares characteristics with large abstract painting, beautiful from a distance but compelling you to look ever closer.

Teapot – height: 25cm, width 25cm, depth 15cm
