Garreg Cufflink Carnelian, by Alistair R

The Garreg cufflink is made of a single shaped stone set into a double bezel cylinder in our unique A-frame link design. This link is cast out of a single piece of silver with no moving parts and is designed to be easy to put on and sit comfortably all day.  All Alistair R silver cufflinks are hallmarked with the 925 Sterling Silver mark and our unique Alistair R makers mark.

Carnelian is a semi translucent orange gemstone which has been much prized by jewellery makers since antiquity. It is known to have been used as beads by Early Neolithic peoples. We hand select our Carnelian for it’s rich lustrous orange colour and love how this ancient stone looks so striking in a contemporary setting. While bright, Carnelian cufflinks are easy to pair.

Approximate Size: The cufflink stone measures 30mm (long) by 7mm (max diameter).

About the Maker:
Through his stone carving and jewellery making in Co Down Alistair aims to bring a touch of style, colour and happiness into our fractious world.  After a successful career in a variety of business sectors Alistair decided to follow his sister, mother and maternal grandfather into the arts taking up lapidary as a hobby before training in Hatton Gardens and building the Alistair R studio.  After 2 years honing his skills and learning traditional silver and goldsmithing techniques Alistair launched his range, initially of cufflinks, in 2014.
Alistair R remains a small family atelier style studio workshop hand making small volumes of jewellery.  Working from rough stone he carves simple architectural shapes to highlight the beautiful colours and tones of the stone and other material with which he works.  These are made into necklaces, earrings, cufflinks, lapel pins, commission and ‘one-of’ pieces – of timelessly simple yet striking design.
